The Five Nordics is the collaboration between the Nordic film institutes. We work together on film promotion, film production, sharing knowledge and a sustainable industry development.

What we do
We are present at major film markets and festivals promoting Nordic films and filmmakers. Our Sustainability Working Group collaborates on projects for a more environmentally sustainable audiovisual industry. Through data sharing and statistical cooperation, we ensure the knowledge-based development of our films and businesses for their continued success.

Our history
After decades of collaboration, the Nordic film institutes realigned the mission, strategic direction, and organization of what used to be called Scandinavian Films. In 2024, we launched The Five Nordics, building on the legacy of this fruitful collaboration and bringing it to a new level, moving beyond the great level of co-production, co-financing and co-promotion we have today. Our aim is to have a comprehensive collaboration within the Nordic region and together show the international community what the Nordics have to offer in films and as film industries.

The Five Nordics is a collaboration between Danish Film Institute, Finnish Film Foundation, Icelandic Film Centre, Norwegian Film Institute, and Swedish Film Institute. One country works as a chair of the board for two years at a time and for 2023-2024 it’s Sweden.
