Visions Nordiques - French Nordic Film Days
A film and industry event in Paris opens on March 5, 2025
PARIS, January 7, 2025 - Visions Nordiques - French Nordic Film Days is a newly created event hosting both a film festival showcasing Nordic films as well as a French-Nordic industry forum. The film festival will open with Touch, the shortlisted Icelandic Oscar submission directed by Baltasar Kormákur. Festival screenings will take place at the Grand Action Cinema on March 5-9 while the industry programme is hosted at the CNC and Institut suédois on March 5-7.
Visions Nordiques - French Nordic Film Days was initiated by The Five Nordics, the French National Centre of Cinema (CNC), Institut suédois (Swedish Institute in Paris) in collaboration with Institut français de Suède and with the support of the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Embassies of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden in France. The artistic direction has been designed and is spearheaded by Swedish arthouse producer and distributor Mattias Nohrborg, TriArt Film and Institut suédois. Visions Nordiques - French Nordic Film Days aims to bring the Nordic and French film industries closer together by encouraging cooperation between professionals while also promoting Nordic films to a French audience.
A selection of around twelve arthouse films from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland will be screened at the Grand Action cinema to film lovers in Paris. A majority of the films selected will be French premieres of recent Nordic feature films from established auteurs as well as emerging talent. In several cases, the screenings will be followed by Q&A’s with attending directors and producers.
The film festival will open with the French premiere of Baltasar Kormákur’s (“Everest”) critically acclaimed Touch, the Icelandic submission to the Academy Award, currently shortlisted for the category Best International Feature. Touch stars Egill Oláfsson, Kôki and Palmi Kormákur and follows the travels and memories of a 73 year-old man from Iceland who decides to search for the woman he fell in love with fifty years ago in London. TOUCH is distributed by Condor Distribution in France.
On March 5-7 at Institut suédois and CNC an industry programme will take place with an aim to allow film institutes and industry professionals from France and the Nordic countries to exchange knowledge of their respective production and distribution support systems as well as foster co-production between the countries. The programme includes panels and case studies on sales and distribution, talent development and sustainability along with a co-production workshop, effectively creating a meeting point for Nordic and French producers, sales agents, and distributors.
